Recycling at Sir John A. Cumber Primary School

Cobalt Coast Dive Resort and the Sir John A. Cumber Primary School in West Bay have teamed up in aluminium can recycling.
Every Monday morning for over four years now, Arie Barendrecht, proprietor; Phil Pace; and their team of volunteers, have been collecting aluminium cans and small batteries from the students.
Every time the students bring the cans to school they receive a “smiley” face stamp on their tracking brochures, which are provided by Cobalt Coast.

At the end of the collection cycle, which coincides with each school term, the participants receive a certificate plus a special treat from Arie and his team.
Mr. Barendrecht also addresses the school assembly and the parents on the importance of collecting the cans and recycling. He informs them that this project encourages the students to become recycling heroes and in so doing reinforces the importance and need to conserve the environment.
He also arranges for special activities aimed at promoting conservation awareness during Earth Month. He reminds them that collecting cans helps them to achieve this goal and reduces the amount of rubbish that is generated in the landfill. The environment will be cleaner as a result. The students, parents and teachers all thank Arie, Phil and the Cobalt Coast Team for their invaluable contribution to the conservation of the environment.

This project is fully funded by Mr. Barendrecht and the Cobalt Coast team. They provide all the treats to the students, which include stationery, books and ice cream.
